Future Shorts, global tribute to the art of short film and animation, showcased a select programme of the best shorts about during the Fringe Festival. The three month-long pop up film festival is amongst the largest in the world. The Edinburgh Filmhouse played host to an impressive two and a bit hour viewing of visual delight. Included in those played was Cirrus.
Lend your ears and feast your eyes; this impossibly intricate music video directed by Cyriak, for Bonobo’s 2013 track ‘Cirrus’, takes the mind on an absolute roller-coaster ride through 1960’s American consumerism. The surreal short captivates, and utterly excites the senses, an energetic and flamboyant, but wholly tasteful affair. Clips from ‘American Thrift, 1962’ are precisely yet vibrantly intermingled, creating a dynamic visual and the perfect accompaniment for the playful instrumental. Looped, manipulated and repeated footage come together in this almighty assemblage of 60’s American nostalgia in an off beat, contemporary playground of both sound and vision.
